Downlight Fire Hood’s are a requirement for ceiling lights when they are fitted to the ceiling of a room where there is a liveable space above. This is so that a fire can be contained in the Fire Hood above the light should one break out. The Fire Hoods provide protection for non-fire rated ceiling lights and down lighters. Our stock includes fire hoods in 150mm which is the ideal size for a majority of GU10’s and MR16 spot fittings and 250mm for use with larger ceiling lights.

These Fire Hoods are compliant with BS476 Part 23 standard and provide 66 minutes of protection in line with this standard. They come with easy installation and are so simple to install; the Downlight Fire Hood's can be folded and fitting from below through the ceiling light hole then simply sprung back out into the correct shape. Downlight Fire Hoods: Fire Protection for Ceilings

At Saving Light Bulbs, we offer a specialised range of downlight fire hoods designed to enhance the fire resistance of your ceilings. Downlight fire hoods provide essential protection by covering recessed lights, helping to maintain the fire-resistant integrity of concrete ceiling structures and comply with building regulations. These hoods are particularly crucial in spaces like lofts or ceiling voids, where downlights are commonly installed but can otherwise compromise the ceiling's fire protection. By installing fire hoods, you effectively reduce the risk of fire spread, smoke infiltration, and heat buildup, ensuring both safety and peace of mind.

Maintain Ceiling Safety with Fire-Rated Protection

Our downlight fire hoods are suitable for both fire-rated and non-fire-rated downlights, providing a versatile solution to enhance ceiling safety across various types of recessed light fittings. Made from fire-resistant materials, these hoods prevent fire from spreading through the ceiling void, maintaining the structural integrity of ceilings in the event of a fire. The downlight lamp covers also reduce heat buildup around fittings, which helps to protect nearby insulation and structural elements. Saving Light Bulbs stocks downlight fire hoods in a variety of sizes, making it easy to find a suitable unit for your downlights. Each hood is designed for straightforward installation, allowing for a secure fit around the light fitting while still allowing adequate airflow.

Reliable Fire Hoods Compliant with Building Regulations

Our downlight fire hoods are fully compliant with building regulations, providing customers with the confidence that their safety needs are met. In addition to fire protection, these hoods also serve as noise dampening units, reducing sound transmission through ceiling voids for enhanced privacy between rooms. For customers with non-fire-rated downlights, these protective covers offer an effective way to retrofit existing fixtures without requiring extensive ceiling modifications. Our team is available to answer any questions about compatibility and installation, helping customers select the perfect product to meet their unique needs. For bulk orders or advice on installation, please contact us, and we’ll be happy to assist.

Enhanced Ceiling Fire Protection with Downlight Fire Hoods

Downlight fire hoods are an essential addition to any space where recessed lights or downlights are installed, offering critical fire resistance that helps preserve the structural integrity of your ceilings. When recessed lights are installed, they create small gaps or “holes” in the ceiling that can potentially compromise the fire-resistant barrier between floors. Downlight fire hoods effectively seal these gaps, preventing fire and smoke from spreading through ceiling voids, thus maintaining the ceilings fire protection integrity. These hoods are particularly valuable in multi-level buildings and loft spaces, where a robust fire barrier is crucial for ensuring safety and meeting building regulations.

Effective Solution for Non-Fire Rated Downlights

For customers with non-fire-rated downlights, downlight fire hoods offer an effective retrofit solution that requires no extensive ceiling modification. Non-fire-rated downlights may not inherently prevent the spread of heat and smoke, making fire hoods an essential safety measure. Our range of downlight covers is designed to fit securely over downlight units, creating a barrier that helps contain heat and smoke in the event of a fire. These protective covers don't overheat and can be installed with ease by electricians or contractors, making them a cost-effective and practical solution to elevate safety without needing to replace existing downlights.

Additional Benefits Beyond Fire Protection

Beyond enhancing fire resistance, downlight fire hoods also reduce heat buildup around the light fittings. Excessive heat can affect both the downlight unit and surrounding insulation, which can impact energy efficiency and potentially cause premature wear to the fittings. Fire hoods help mitigate this heat, protecting the downlight and maintaining the overall efficiency of the lighting system. Furthermore, downlight hoods also provide noise reduction benefits by adding a layer of sound insulation, helping to reduce noise transmission between rooms or floors. This is especially useful in residential settings and shared living spaces where sound dampening enhances comfort.

FAQs

Q1: Are downlight fire hoods necessary for all types of downlights?

A: While fire-rated downlights provide some inherent protection, downlight fire hoods are essential for non-fire-rated downlights to ensure ceilings meet building regulations. Fire hoods enhance fire resistance and prevent the spread of smoke and heat through ceiling voids, providing an additional layer of protection regardless of the downlight type.

Q2: Can downlight fire hoods be installed in loft spaces with insulation?

A: Yes, our downlight fire hoods are suitable for use in loft spaces and other areas with insulation. The hoods help reduce heat buildup around the downlight fittings, protecting insulation from potential heat damage while maintaining the fire-resistant integrity of the ceiling.

Q3: How do I choose the right size of fire hood for my downlights?

A: Selecting the correct size is crucial to ensure a proper fit. Measure the diameter of the hole cut for your downlight and choose a fire hood that accommodates it. If you have any questions about sizing or compatibility, please contact our team for expert advice.

Q4: Do downlight fire hoods fit all downlight models, or do they vary by size?

A: Downlight fire hoods come in various sizes to fit different downlight models and ceiling hole diameters. It’s important to measure the downlight fitting and hole size to select a compatible fire hood. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us with the details, and we’ll be happy to help you find the correct size.
